Integration Steps

To integrate your Revel POS with WISK:

  1. Follow this article to set up a daily automated export of the Product Mix Report in either CSV or XLS (Excel) format to be sent to [email protected]: https://support.revelsystems.com/s/article/Product-Mix-Report-1583149670668

Note: For more information about the report format, see the "Example Report" section below.

  2. Please email [email protected] or reach out in the chat to let the Support Team know you have scheduled the email reports. They will need to know to watch for them and then link them to your account(s).

  3. As part of contacting Support, please indicate your preference for importing modifiers. You can find more information about this in the "Modifier Import Settings" section

  4. The daily sales report is then uploaded to your account(s) when received by WISK

  5. You’ll receive a notification that the integration is complete when the sales are uploaded for the first time in each account.

  6. Important: Please check your account to make sure the sales and modifiers are importing as requested. If needed, you can make changes and reimport the sales data. It's best to do this early before mapping any POS Items.

To learn more, see the "Modifier Import Settings" section.

Example Report

The integration is set up to parse data from files in the following format:

The heading of each column should be as follows:

  • A - Row Type

  • B - Class

  • C - Name

  • D - SKU

  • E - Barcode

  • F - Product Category

  • G - Product Subcategory

  • H - Parent Product

  • I - Qty

  • J - Weight

  • K - Non-Taxable Sales

  • L - Taxable Sales

  • M - % Total Sales

  • N - COGS

Modifier Import Settings

When setting up the initial integration, or any time after, you can change how modifiers are imported into your account.

If you have both Food and Beverage accounts, you may even consider having different settings in each.

Important: We recommend checking this is set up to your liking before moving ahead with mapping POS Items. This makes it easier to clear and re-import your data with the latest settings.

To view or change your modifier settings:

  1. On the WISK Web Portal, hover your cursor over your username on the bottom left, and click “Venue Settings” on the menu that appears

  2. Scroll down to the "POS Integrations" section and click "Edit" beside your Revel integration

  3. The following modifier customization options appear:

    1. Include Modifiers - This imports any modifiers with a price. This modifier is attached to the main POS item by default unless you toggled on "Import Modifiers as Separate POS Items".

For example if you have a House Salad with add-on/up-charge modifiers for a choice of protein, those would be appended to the main sales item and the cost is updated to reflect that. See "Include Modifiers" below for examples.

    2. Include Modifiers with Price of 0 - This imports any modifiers with a price of 0. This can include things such as the type of mix served with a drink that is included as part of the cost. This is attached to the main sales item unless you toggle on "Import Modifiers as Separate POS Items".

See "Include Modifiers with Price of 0" below for examples.

    3. Import Modifiers as Separate POS Items - When you select this option, your menu item modifiers appear as separate POS Items. This applies to both modifiers that include an up-charge, and modifiers with a price of 0.

For example, if you sell an item called "Tito's Vodka" and you use modifiers to track the mix it's sold with, it will appear differently depending on whether this box is checked. Lets say we sell it with Orange Juice:

      • Checked - There will be a separate POS Item for "Tito's Vodka", and for "Orange Juice". Orange Juice could be used as a modifier in multiple items, and it will only appear as one POS Item.

      • Unchecked - There will be a combined POS Item of "Tito's Vodka - Orange Juice".

When modifiers are imported attached, it can create a lot of POS Items but it provides more accurate costing and tracking - however importing them separately can reduce the number of POS Items to map.

To see examples, please see "Modifier Import Examples"

  4. Check any of the boxes and click "Save"

An arrow points to the "Save" button

  5. You can then select when to reimport your sales data from. You can choose a specific date or inventory count. WISK Support and your Customer Success rep can also fully clear your sales data - but this is best done early when your venue doesn't have much information

  6. Please check that the sales are importing in the way you want on the Sales and POS Items pages. You can change the settings a reimport your sales data as needed.

Modifier Import Examples

In this section we'll show examples of different outputs depending on whether an option is toggled on.

To help understand the output of the different import options, we'll take a look at a sample sales file.

This sales file includes both modifiers with a price, and modifiers with a price of 0.

Include Modifiers

If you use modifiers, you'll want this option toggled on at a minimum. This specifically imports mods with a price. These are typically an up-charge or an add-on.

These mods may be specific to a single POS Item, or can be used in many.

In this sales file, examples of mods with a price include:

  • Red Bull - $4

  • Red Bull Sugar Free - $4

  • Add Grilled Chicken - $8

  • Add Grilled Salmon - $10

Attached to Main POS Item

  • When the "Include modifiers" box is toggled on

  • but the "Import Modifiers as separate POS Items" box is toggled off

Mods with a price are attached to the main POS Item.

This segments the sales and creates separate POS Items that need to be mapped. The menu price of the created POS Item includes the price of the main POS Item and modifier.

In the example below you'll see:

  • Tito's Vodka, Quantity Sold: 15, Menu Price: $10.00, Total Sales: $150.00

  • Tito's Vodka - Red Bull, Quantity Sold: 4, Menu Price: $14.00, Total Sales: $56.00

  • Tito's Vodka - Red Bull Sugar Free, Quantity Sold: 1, Menu Price: $14.00, Total Sales: $14.00

The mods used in each salad also create new POS Items for Caesar and House Salad.

Imported as Separate POS Items

  • When the "Include modifiers" box is toggled on

  • and the "Import Modifiers as separate POS Items" box is toggled on

Mods with a price appear as separate POS Items.

In the example below, the modifiers appear on their own, each with the price, instead of creating POS Items for them attached to the menu items they appear in.

Note: If the POS Item is a modifier the title begins with "(Modifier)"

This reduces the amount of mapping if a modifier is used in multiple POS Items. You only need to map the modifier once instead of every combination it can appear in when attached to a POS Item.

Include Modifiers with Price of 0

These modifiers are part of the base cost of the POS Item, but impact the ingredients used. Examples of types of these modifiers include:

  • The mix used or flavor of a drink (orange juice, ginger ale, etc)

  • Choice of side with an entree (fries, salad, etc)

  • Toppings on a burger/sandwich

  • Choice of protein in a dish (chicken, beef, tofu, etc)

These mods may be specific to a single POS Item, or can be used in many.

In this sales file, examples of mods with a price of 0 include:

  • Orange Juice

  • Cranberry Juice

  • Tonic

  • Chicken

  • Beef

Attached to Main POS Item

  • When the "Include modifiers with price of 0" box is toggled on

  • but the "Import Modifiers as separate POS Items" box is toggled off

Mods with a price of 0 are attached to the main POS Item.

This segments the sales and creates separate POS Items that need to be mapped.

In the example below you'll a unique POS Item for every combination:

  • Tito's Vodka

    • Tito's Vodka - Cranberry Juice

    • Tito's Vodka - Orange Juice

    • Tito's Vodka - Tonic

  • Tanqueray

    • Tanqueray - Cranberry Juice

    • Tanqueray - Orange Juice

    • Tanqueray - Tonic

  • Burrito

    • Burrito - Beef

    • Burrito - Chicken

This allows you to get very specific with your mapping and to get exact costs for every combination. This however takes a lot of effort to map each combination.

Imported as Separate POS Items

  • When the "Include modifiers with price of 0" box is toggled on

  • and the "Import Modifiers as separate POS Items" box is toggled on

Mods with a price of 0 appear as separate POS Items.

This reduces the amount of mapping if a modifier is used in multiple POS Items. You only need to map the modifier once instead of every combination it can appear in when attached to a POS Item.

In the example below, the drink mix modifiers (Orange Juice, Cranberry Juice, Tonic) appear on their own, instead of creating POS Items for them attached to the menu items they appear in.

Import Modifiers Attached to POS Items Limitation

Important: Due to the way sales data is sent from Revel, importing modifiers attached to the POS Item may not work depending on your set up.

The sales file shows the total number of each item sold, and then the total modifiers sold with that item.

When attaching modifiers to the base POS Item, we only attach one modifier to each sale.

This is because we don't have details about specific transactions, just the total sold.

So if the total number of modifiers exceeds the number of the item sold, it won't import properly.

In that case we recommend importing modifiers as separate POS items. That way it will still capture the information correctly.

For example, if you sell a Mixed Beer Bucket that can contain a combination of 5 different beers, for every 1 bucket sold, there are 5 modifier options. When importing it will have issues - so to accurately track this we recommend importing your modifiers separately.

That way each beer will have a separate POS Item you can map and you will get the correct quantity sold.
